The project group
Henrik Balslev, has long research experience in tropical botany and particularly in the study of useful palms in northwestern south America. He has worked in the region for over 20 years and has lived in South America for several years. Over the past many years he has collaborated with various researchers and research institutions in Latin America in developing research programmes that combine a natural sciences approach with an orientation to development issues in the third World. He has published extensively in this field.
Cesar Grandez teaches botany at Universidad Nacional de la Amazonia Peruana in Iquitos . He has carried out extexnsive field explorations in the region and has travelled extensively in the Peruvian Amazon. He knows well many villages along the Pastaza and Huasaga river, where the field work for the present project is be carried out. In addition he supervises several students in their thesis research projects and will also supervise two Peruvian thesis students within the present project.
Several Danish MSc. students have joined the project and do research for their M.Sc thesis ("speciale") within the projects.
